English version: Our little boy caught his first cold at the age of 8 months and 2 weeks... He's been sneezing, has a runny nose and a cough (like his Mom had this past week... Probably got from his Mom :-/). The poor little guy is struggling to nurse because he can't breathe easily and sleep was difficult for him last night (waking up every 45-60 minutes in discomfort). His Mom had to "sleep" while sitting upright (holding him) because that was the only way that Aidan could get some sleep with his stuffy nose. Today (Dec 11), we've been having a vaporizer going with eucalyptus oil in whatever room he's in, we've been spraying saline solution followed by a nasal aspirator (Aidan's "favorite") to ease his breathing as much as we can, and have been taking hot baths with the bathroom door closed to steam up the room. So sad to see our little one sick, even though we know getting sick is inevitable and will probably occur more often once Aidan starts on his Montessori school next August. Other than these symptoms, Aidan continues to be the bouncy and active little boy! :-)
Dec 12: After three hot baths yesterday, lots of saline solution with nasal aspiration, and vaporizer with eucalyptus oil, Aidan had a much better night of sleep last night (from 9PM 'till 5AM). But then, at 5AM, he woke up very uncomfortable and stuffed up. We prepared a hot bath again and I (Andrea) soaked in the hot tub with him, nursing him. Poor little guy was so exhausted that he fell asleep in the tub. So, I carefully got out of the tub, dried him up, wrapped him in a soft bath towel and went to bed with him. We all slept until 9:15AM, including Cole and Daisy. :-) So far, Aidan seems better: a little congested but not as bad as in the past couple of days. We continue to have the vaporizer with eucalyptus oil running.
Dec 13: Aidan is still congested with a runny nose but getting better little by little. Last night, he slept well for the first hour and then cried for 2 hours, stuffed up. We went on a car ride to calm him down and he fell asleep but as we closed the garage door he woke up, of course! We then went in the shower with him with the hot water running, creating a lot of steam... It helped with his stuffy nose, but he was still restless. So, Dad put him on the Baby Bjorn and started vacuuming the house. No fail: Aidan fell asleep... This was no midnight! From that point on, however, he slept well until 7:30AM. During the day, he's been fine: hardly any runny nose or cough. He has taken his usual naps, despite still being congested. We even went to a Holiday brunch with other moms from our Mommy & Me group (see photo of Aidan with his friend, Natalie above). Let's hope his congestion won't bother him too much tonight, poor baby boy!
Versao portugues: Nosso lindinho pegou seu primeiro resfriado na pequena idade de 8 meses e 2 semanas... Ele tem espirrado e tem estado com uma corisa e uma pequena tosse (como sua Mae semana passada... Provavelmente pegou dela :-/). Tadinho... Estah com dificuldade de mamar por nao conseguir respirar direito. Dormir foi tambem dificil para ele ontem `a noite (acordando de 45-60 minutos, desconfortavel e congestionado). A Mamae teve que "dormir" sentada (segurando ele) porque era a unica posicao que Aidan conseguia dormir com o nariz entupido. Durante o dia (11 de Dezembro), temos colocado o vaporizador com oleo de eucalipto nos lugares da casa em que Aidan se encontra, temos tomado uns banhos de banheira quente com a porta do banheiro fechada para criar bastante vapor, e temos colocado solucao salina no seu nariz seguida de aspirador nasal (o "favorito" de Aidan-para nao dizer o contrario) para tentar diminuir sua congestao nasal. Tao tristinho ver nosso lindinho adoecer, mesmo que a gente saiba que eh inevitavel e sabemos que provavelmente vai ocorrer com maior frequencia qdo. Aidan comecar a ir para sua escolinha Montessori em agosto do ano que vem. Fora isso, Aidan continua sendo o menininho danadinho, pulador e cheio de energia!
12 de Dezembro: Apos tres banhos de banheira quente com a Mamae ontem, um monte de solucao salina seguida de aspirador nasal, e o vaporizador ligado com oleo de eucalipto, Ainda teve uma noite de sono bem melhor (das 21hrs `as 5hrs). Mas infelizmente, `as 5hrs da manha de hoje, acordou muito congestionado, chorando. Preparamos uma banheira de agua quente, entrei (a Mamae) na banheira com Aidan, ficamos la relaxando na banheira enqto. Aidan amamentava. Tadinho, estava tao cansado que pegou no sono na banheira. Sai da banheira com bastante cuidado para nao acorda-lo, o enxuguei direitinho, o embrulhei numa toalha gigante e felpuda, e fomos nos deitar juntos. Dormimos todos ate `as 9:15hrs, inclusive Cole e Daisy. :-) Ate entao, Aidan parece estar melhorando: ainda congestionado mas com menos corisa e pouca tosse. Continuamos rodando o vaporizador com oleo de eucalipto.
13 de Dezembro: Aidan ainda estah congestionado e com corisa, mas ficando melhorzinho a cada dia. Ontem `a noite, ele dormiu bem durante a primeira hora mas acordou congestionado, chorando. Nos fomos passear de carro para acalma-lo (ele gosta do movimento do carro com o ruidinho repetitivo do motor) e ele pegou no sono. No entanto, assim que fechamos a porta da garagem, ele se acordou (claro). O levamos entao para o chuveiro com a agua quente caindo no chao para fazer o vapor... Ajudou bastante com a congestao nasal, mas ele ainda estava muito agitado. Entao, o Papai o colocou no "canguru" e comecou a aspirar o quarto. Tiro e queda: Aidan pegou no sono - isso ja era meia-noite! A partir dai, ele dormiu ate `as 7:30hrs. Durante o dia, ele parece estar indo bem: com um pouco de corisa e tosse. Tirou suas sonecas usuais, apesar de ainda estar congestionado. Nos ate fomos para o Brunch de Fim-de-Ano com as outras maes do nosso grupo "Eu e Mamae'" (ver foto de Aidan acima com sua amiguinha, Natalie). Vamos torcer que hoje `a noite a sua congestao nasal nao o incomode tanto, tadinho!
